Make a winter hat

Me and Bonnie with our woollen hats
A lot of you know that my assistant knits a lot and I thought she could use her skills for us teddy bears too. I made her a nice cup of tea and gave her some good cookies and asked if I could have a knitting pattern for a hat and share with my friends on my blog. She went on about how busy she is and so on... but in the end she said yes...because I can be quite cute I think.

Hat for a teddy my size.

Knitted in DK weight yarn on 5 needles size 3mm.
On sock needles size 3mm cast on 32 stitches and have 8 stitches on each of the 4 needles. Join and knit in the round, place marker, and work as follows:
Knit 4 rounds of rib (knit 2, purl 2).
Knit 7 rounds.
Decrease as follows: *Knit 2 together, knit 6* Repeat from * to * to end of round.
*Knit 2 together, knit5* Repeat from * to * to end of round.
*Knit 2 together, knit4* Repeat from * to * to end of round.
*Knit 2 together, knit3* Repeat from * to * to end of round.
*Knit 2 together, knit2* Repeat from * to * to end of round.
*Knit 2 together, knit1* Repeat from * to * to end of round.
Cut the yarn about 20 cm/ 8" long. Pull the yarn trough the remaining stitches.

Wrap yarn around the three middle fingers about 20 times. Take the yarn off your fingers and make sure to secure the loops in the middle with some yarn. Attach the loops firmly and securely to the top of the hat. With the end of the yarn you knitted with, wrap tightly around the place where the loops have been attached to the hat and secure the end on the inside of the hat. Weave in other loose ends on the inside of the hat.

With embroidery scissor cut the loops open and cut back the "broom" to a nice shape.

This should make your ears warm and you look good.
